On May 23, at approximately 8:08 p.m., Dawson County attempted to stop a motorcycle for having no registration on Ga. 400 North near the Lumpkin County line.
The motorcycle slowed rolled to Ga. 400 at Burnt Stand Road in Lumpkin County where the Georgia State Patrol (GSP) was following the Dawson County Unit.
The motorcycle accelerated and failed to yield, and GSP with sirens and lights activated pursued the motorcycle on Ga. 400 North to Ga. 115. The motorcycle turned right on SR 115 traveling towards White County. GSP called the pursuit off at 8:16 p.m., after losing visual of the motorcycle.
At approximately 8:23 p.m., the motorcycle crashed on SR 11 near Tommy Cowart Road in White County and was not being pursued by another agency. No other vehicles were involved in the crash.
The motorcycle was engulfed in flames and the driver, Bruce E. Morgan, age 49 of Clermont, sustained non-life-threatening second-degree burns. Morgan was transported by Air Life to a metro-Atlanta hospital. No other injuries were reported. Several traffic offenses will be charged including Fleeing and Attempting to Elude and Driving While License Suspended.
