Helen to host street dance as part of festivities for 50-year ‘Alpine’ observance
The 50th anniversary celebration of Alpine Helen will continue with a street dance this month.
The event will take place from 6-8 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 24, in the marketplatz in downtown Helen, said Jerry Brown, executive director of Alpine Helen/White County Georgia Convention & Visitors Bureau. White County’s own Nashville rising star Gina Gailey will be performing during the event.
“We will also have food and beverages available there at the marketplatz at the band shell, and cupcakes to help us celebrate our birthday,” Brown said.
The street dance was chosen based on feedback from past celebrations, such as the 100th year of the town’s founding, he added.
“The last one we had, we had close to 3,000 people that came to enjoy the music that we had available, as well as the vendors,” Brown said. “We decided this would be a great way to get people to come into the middle of town to help us celebrate it.”
The event will be held rain or shine. For more information, visit www.helenga.org.
