A light to encourage others

Get a mammogram. That’s the advice that Dawn Powell, 53, would give to women. She was diagnosed with Stage 2 breast cancer in 2016, a year that was difficult for Powell for others reasons as well. She was going through a divorce and started taking care of her father, who had Alzheimer’s.

County has new election official

Akyn Bailey will be White County’s next election supervisor. She was set to begin her new role Thursday, Oct. 14, according to an announcement from County Manager Joey Cason.

District 2 Public Health will be hosting a drive-thru flu clinic on Tuesday, Oct. 12, at Cleveland Worship Center from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.  Individuals who would like to receive their flu shot at the drive-thru must be 18 and older, must remain in their vehicles, and are asked to wear a mask.

A rabid fox in the Arthur Seabolt Road area is the second confirmed rabies case in White County for 2021. According to Sean Sullivan, White County Environmental Health Manager, on Thursday, Sept. 30, homeowners heard a commotion outside on their porch at approximately 10:30 p.m.
