A Cleveland woman was killed in a single-vehicle accident Sunday evening, Oct. 31, in Habersham County. At the time of the incident, Glenn J. Corum, 60, of Gainesville was driving a 1993 Ford F-150 south on Ga. 17 near Fred Pitts Road, according to the Georgia State Patrol.

Brown,Wilmont chosen for REACH Georgia scholarship

Eighth-graders Serenaty Brown and Jazmeene Wilmont are White County Middle School’s REACH Georgia scholarship recipients for the 2021-2022 school year. The students were honored during an Oct. 25 signing ceremony at WCMS.

A passion for podcasting

A local student is working on making a name for himself in the podcast world. Jackson Harris, 16, is a sophomore at White County High School. He launched his podcast, The Jackson Harris Show, in August after being inspired by podcaster Sheila Mac out of California.

WCHS Marching Band earns superior ratings

On Oct. 23 the White County High School Marching Band performed their show  “1985” in the annual Hurricane Classic Marching Band Competition hosted by Monroe Area High School in Monroe. This was their second competition of the year.

Veterans and their guests heard from Billy Vaughn, an author and Gold Star father of a fallen solider, at the 17th Annual Veterans’ Luncheon held Oct. 26 at Mt. Yonah Baptist Church.

Decision day nears for city elections

Election Day is coming Tuesday. Early voting wraps up this week for the Cleveland and Helen municipal elections. As of 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 26, 142 residents have early voted in the Cleveland election out of the city’s 2,312 registered voters. There are two seats up for grabs in Cleveland.

Third rabies case confirmed in White County for 2021

A rabid skunk in the Trinity Trail area is the third confirmed rabies case in White County for 2021. According to Sean Sullivan, White County Environmental Health Manager, on Friday, Oct. 22, the homeowner saw a skunk wandering around their yard and acting aggressive toward their animals.
