COVID cases spike after holidays

Georgia is experiencing another surge in COVID-19 cases, as is White County. The county’s seven-day moving average of confirmed cases was at 25.6 cases per day, according to a Jan. 4 update from the Georgia Department of Public Health. That’s up from the average of 7.9 reported Dec. 28.

Police Search Continues for Missing Woman

An effort to locate 69-year-old Mattie Mizell of Cleveland has continued Monday in an all-day search. Mizell went missing on Saturday, Jan. 1, where she was seen walking in a northwestern direction by White County Middle School around 2:40 p.m. by security cameras.

Police seek help locating missing woman

The Cleveland Police Department is asking for the public’s assistance in the search for Mattie Mizell, a 69-year-old female officials say suffers from dementia and is missing from Cleveland. She was wearing blue pants, and purple/blue hoodie with black shoes with white soles.

Canup recalled for impact on others

Lamar Canup, a longtime local insurance agent and radio fixture, is being remembered for his caring nature and lasting influence on those who knew him. Canup, a Helen native who was living in Sautee Nacoochee, died Sunday at 78. He brought blessings to the lives of others, said the Rev.

A Georgia Department of Labor preliminary report shows White County’s unemployment rate staying at 2% or less for a fifth straight month. Preliminary unemployment for White County in November was 1.5%, nearly half of what it was in the same month a year ago at 2.9%.
