Starting Thursday, Sept. 9, there will be a traffic shift on Hulsey Road due to construction for phase 3 of the bypass. According to the Georgia Department of Transportation, the traffic shift will take place on Hulsey Road from Helen Highway to U.S. 129.

A Cleveland man was killed in a single-vehicle motorcycle accident on Saturday, Sept. 4. According to Georgia State Patrol, at approximately 7 p.m. Michael Bohn, 34, was driving a 1998 Honda motorcycle west on Collins Road.

It’s almost time for Oktoberfest season in Helen. The festivities throughout the city begin Thursday, Sept. 9, and continue through Sunday, Nov. 7. At the Helen Festhalle (1074 Edelweiss Strasse), Oktoberfest celebrations will run from Sept. 9-12, Sept. 16-19, Sept. 23-26, then daily from Sept.

The White County Board of Commissioners is partnering with Windstream and Trailwave/HEMC in applying for federal and state funding for proposed expansions of broadband internet services. Commissioners voted at an Aug. 24 meeting to serve as the conduit for both proposals, should funding be awarded.
