by Noah Johnson White County News   The White County Board of Commissioners announced last week that it intends to increase property taxes by 3.86 percent for the upcoming fiscal year. The county will maintain its previous years millage rate of 9.505, an increase of 0.

Helen to build love lock sculpture

by Jessica Wood White County News   The city of Helen has come up with a solution to the ongoing problem of padlocks — known as love locks — being attached to the bridge that runs over the Chattahoochee River in the center of town.

Cleveland selects finance director

by Linda Erbele White County News   The Cleveland City Council, at its regular meeting July 3, approved adding John Solmon, the city’s new finance director, to the city’s bank accounts and credit card accounts. Solmon began his duties Monday, July 3.

‘Doesn’t fit in’

by Noah Johnson White County News   The White County Planning Commission, at its July 3 meeting recommended the denial of a request from Oleksandr Fedoruk to redistrict property located at 648 Will Hambrick Rd from A-1 Agriculture Forestry to R-3 Residential Seasonal District.

Return to Normandy

by Samantha Sinclair White County News   Seventy-nine years ago this month, Andy Negra landed on Utah Beach in Normandy, France. On June 4, he stood on Omaha Beach, just beside where he landed, for the first time since July 18, 1944. “It struck me real quick,” Negra said.

Fireworks displays set for Fourth

Staff Report   Helen’s annual fireworks may be the main event on Independence Day, but there are plenty of other celebrations for families to enjoy this weekend and on the holiday. On Saturday, July 1, there will be two local celebrations.
