Looking for parking spaces

by Jessica Wood White County News   Helen business owners and city leaders met for two hours Tuesday to hash out parking concerns and possible solutions. The Town Hall meeting was organized by Chief of Police Aletha Barrett and City Manager Darrell Westmoreland.

The Sautee Nacoochee Cultural Center hosted Juneteenth programs throughout the day on the holiday, Monday, June 19. The day was dedicated to raising funds for the Bean Creek Missionary Baptist Church cemetery.

Helen prepares balanced 2023-2024 budget for review

by Jessica Wood White County News   The city of Helen has prepared a balanced general fund budget of $5,476,733 for the 2023-2024 fiscal year, a decrease of $458,244 from last year. “We have always been careful to not budget revenues any higher than the previous year,” said Mayor Jeff Ash.

Turner, Jones win Georgia Press awards for White County News

Staff Reports   The White County News team brought home multiple awards from the Georgia Press Association’s 2023 Better Newspaper Contest. The contest was for work published in 2022. Winners were announced Friday during the association’s 136th annual convention in Jekyll Island.

County names assistant manager

by Linda Erbele White County News   The White County Board of Commissioners announced on Tuesday that Public Works Director Derick Canupp will assume the role of Assistant County Manager. He will continue to manage the public works department, and take on additional responsibilities over time.

County approves $27.9 million budget
