A few clarifications I appreciated Mr. Whitehead’s letter of last week in which he addressed my concerns about best practices for letters to the editor and also included more about his stance on choice. It’s probably a credit to his letter that I now feel the need to offer a few clarifications.

I was an English major in college, but if I had the chance to do it over again, I think I’d major in Political Science with a minor in Sociology. Talk about a winning ticket! I’ve always been a fascinated observer of human nature.

No doubt you’ve heard the old joke that memory is the first thing to go, and I don’t remember the second thing. There’s much truth in that saying. I know that because my wife and I have reached the age when memory comes and goes, and when it goes, it stays out late, like the town drunk.

You folks 70 and older may remember coming in from grammar school with the knees of your britches a tad darker color than when you left home. Why? You’d probably played marbles during recess. If you’re 50 or younger, you don’t know what the heck I’m talking about.
