A 2-year-old girl died in a tragic incident in Sautee Nacoochee on Monday, Aug. 30, after being struck by a vehicle in a driveway. According to a Georgia State Patrol report, a 2014 Honda CR-V was turning into a private driveway on Woodland Drive just before 6 p.m.

Ambulance service to get more help on calls

White County plans to temporarily add another ambulance to aid emergency medical services facing greater demand amid a recent surge in COVID-19 cases throughout the region.

White County’s seven-day moving average of confirmed COVID-19 case reports has reached a new high for the pandemic, according to the Georgia Department of Public Health (DPH). An Aug. 31 update from DPH showed the average at 34.6 cases, eclipsing the previous high of 30 cases on Jan.

Cason hired as county manager

The White County Board of Commissioners hired Joey Cason as county manager during a called meeting Tuesday. Cason, currently executive director of the Camden County Public Service Authority, is set to begin his new post Sept. 20. He was the sole finalist announced by commissioners Aug. 10.
