Helen celebration welcomes new year

by Noah Johnson White County News   The 10th annual dropping of the Edelweiss will take place in Alpine Helen on Sunday, Dec. 31. This event is hosted by the Helen Chamber of Commerce and offers a family-friendly New Year’s celebration for guests of all ages.

NGTC names Barrett chairman

North Georgia Technical College Board of Directors recently inducted Gilbert Barrett of Demorest, as chairman of the board for the college. Barrett has served on the NGTC Board of Directors for two terms since 2018 and will serve as chairman for two years.

Cleveland man charged with 15 felonies

by Noah Johnson White County News   An alleged local drug dealer is in jail after a months-long investigation. On Friday, Dec. 22, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation announced they arrested Michael Thompson, 56, of Cleveland on drug and gun charges. The arrest took place on Tuesday, Dec.

Hill remembered as ‘Great American’

by Samantha Sinclair White County News   Ronald Guy Hill, U.S. Army veteran and community leader, passed away Sunday, a day after his final gift to the county was dedicated. Hill was 89 years old. He had Stage 4 pancreatic cancer.

New statue honors families of fallen

by Samantha Sinclair White County News   The monument in Freedom Park with the names of those lost in wars since World War I now has a companion monument honoring the family members left behind. Northeast Georgia Veterans Society dedicated the Families of the Fallen statue Saturday morning.
