Fires show severity of conditions

Helen artist Wilkins wins Scoop cover art contest

by Linda Erbele White County News   An artist from Helen won the cover contest for the 2025-2026 Get the Scoop magazine. Anna Wilkins’ paintings have been on the cover of Scoop three other times, in 2011, 2017 and 2019. This year’s painting involved a bear seen in Innsbruck.

Toddler fights for life after drowning

By Basil Ray White County News      Sixteen-month-old Aurelia Gail Patricia Day is fighting for her life after a drowning accident on March 5.    As reported by the parents, Aurelia was found by her mother unresponsive in a lake in the backyard of their home in the area of Ivy Hills Drive.

Staff reports      CNI Regional Publisher Keith Barlow announced that Denise Etheridge has returned to the White County News as a senior reporter. Etheridge worked at the White County News previously from 2005 to 2009.    “I feel like I’ve come back home,” Etheridge said.

   A Gainesville man was arrested Saturday evening after leading police on a high speed chase on Ga. 115.    The White County Sheriff’s Office charged 33-year-old William Mosquere-Contraras with 11 misdemeanors and two felonies following the incident.    At 7:19 p.m., a deputy on on Ga.

United Way awards $80K to local non-profit agencies
