Kemp urges patience for state's COVID-19 data

By Beau Evans Staff Writer Capitol Beat News Service   Gov. Brian Kemp urged Georgians Thursday to have patience with public health officials amid reports over questionable data-keeping methods for positive cases of coronavirus in the state.

There have been 91 total confirmed COVID-19 cases in White County since the start of the pandemic, according to the 1 p.m. update on Wednesday, May 20, on the Georgia Department of Public Health's website. That number remained the same with the 1 p.m. update on Thursday, May 21.
White County High School senior Bentley Cronic will continue her academic and athletic career at Piedmont College in the fall. Cronic signed a letter of intent this week to become part of the Lady Lions' basketball program. Piedmont College is a NCAA D-III college in Demorest. The Lady Lions finished 19-9 this past season, and have won three of the last four USA South tournament titles. The annual Shriners Parade in Helen is set for next month – at least for the moment – while the city won’t hold its annual July fireworks showcase. At its May 14 meeting, the Helen City Commission debated whether to allow several events to be held amid the coronavirus pandemic.

In-person early voting began in White County on Monday, May 18. There have been 166 early votes cast in the general primary, which includes county, state and federal races, as of 5 p.m. on Tuesday.
