WC volleyball squad easing back into summer program

If all things go well, the start of the high school volleyball season is about two months away, and the White County Lady Warriors are making plans to start their preparation for the upcoming season as soon as possible.
The Warriors, including senior receiver Cooper Turner, right, won't be able to compete in 7-on-7 events in June due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The team will open summer workouts next week at the high school complex.

The White County Warriors' football team will hit the ground running next week when the Georgia High School Association allows high school athletes back on campus for the first time since mid-March due the to COVID-19 pandemic.

After delays and confusion related to the COVID-19 pandemic, election day will finally arrive Tuesday, June 9. The unprecedented circumstances have actually led to two separate countywide elections being held at the same time, along with a pair of Cleveland special elections.

As anticipated, the COVID-19 pandemic walloped White County’s labor market, according to local data released last week by the Georgia Department of Labor. The county’s preliminary unemployment rate was 10.7% in April, up from 3.5% in March.

This week is the last week to vote early in the upcoming election. Early voting for countywide primary elections began May 18 will continue until Friday, June 5, during normal weekday business hours at the Voter Registrar’s Office.

There have been 103 total confirmed COVID-19 cases in White County since the start of the pandemic, according to the 1 p.m. update on Monday, June 1, on the Georgia Department of Public Health's website. In White County there have been 21 hospitalizations and three deaths attributed to COVID-19.

by Matthew Osborne, The Northeast Georgian Lee Arrendale State Prison had its fourth sexual assault arrest of the first five months of the year on May 21. Tyler Sterling Hall, 24, of Cleveland was arrested on three counts of sexual assault against a person in custody.
