The city of Helen plans to require a permit for filming movies, TV shows and other videos in the alpine-themed town. City commissioners approved a permit application form based on one used by the city of Cleveland during their meeting on Tuesday, June 9.

White County voters will decide four runoff elections in August. The runoffs are a result of no single candidate from a field of three or more received enough votes to cross the 50% threshold in the June 9 primary elections.
The White County Food Processing Center will be open from June 30 through Aug. 4 on Tuesdays from 8 a.m. to noon, and Thursdays from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.

The White County Food Processing Center will be open from June 30 through Aug. 4 on Tuesdays from 8 a.m. to noon, and Thursdays from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. After Aug. 4, it will only be open on Thursdays until Sept. 15 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. The cannery is located at 283 Old Blairsville Road in Cleveland.

Helping hands step up to share 3,400 pounds of donated food

A recent goodwill effort to help the community’s families in need ultimately needed a little extra generosity from others to help see it through. It began just over a month ago when Community Helping Hands Clinic Executive Director Gene White received a call from Americans Helping Americans.

The White County Board of Commissioners has set the Fiscal Year 2020-2021 budget – for now. The roughly $24.7 million total budget adopted at the county’s June 15 meeting, following a second and final public hearing, is 2.43% more than the current fiscal year’s approved budget.

There have been 124 total confirmed COVID-19 cases in White County since the start of the pandemic, according to the update on Monday, June 15, on the Georgia Department of Public Health's website. In White County there have been 25 hospitalizations and four deaths attributed to COVID-19.
