It was a beautiful day for run Tuesday  as hundreds of middle school and high school cross country athletes gathered at Unicoi State Park for the annual Yonah Invitational.

Lady Warriors earn spot in AAA tourney

For the fourth consecutive year, the White County High School volleyball team is headed to the state tournament. The Lady Warriors clinched a spot in the Class AAA tournament last week at the Area 7-AAA tournament at North Hall, finishing fourth.

WCHS, Sandy Creek open softball series

The White County High School softball team opens the Class AAA state tournament on the road today, taking on Sandy Creek in a doubleheader in Tyrone. The Lady Warriors (21-5) finished as the No. 3 seed in Region 7-AAA, while the Lady Patriots are the the No. 2 seed out of Region 5-AAA.

Get a mammogram. That’s the advice that Dawn Powell, 53, would give to women. She was diagnosed with Stage 2 breast cancer in 2016, a year that was difficult for Powell for others reasons as well. She was going through a divorce and started taking care of her father, who had Alzheimer’s.
