Summer school is underway, and it’s going very well. White County School System Superintendent Dr. Laurie Burkett told Board of Education Members that when summer school talks first began, it was to recover some of the student learning loss that occurred due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The summer feeding program in White County is set to begin June 7. Meals are free of charge for all children between the ages of 2 and 18. There are no adult meals.

The White County Board of Education didn’t have to look far when it came to finding a new principal for Jack P. Nix Elementary School. School board members approved Laura Hall as the new principal at a called meeting Tuesday, May 4. She is currently the school’s assistant principal.

A familiar face will be returning to the halls of White County Middle School. The White County Board of Education has approved hiring Nara Allen as the school’s new principal, effective July 1, 2021. Current principal Kristi Gerrells is retiring in June. “It is very exciting,” Allen said.
