Hot air balloon showcase returns to Helen

The 48th annual Helen to the Atlantic Balloon Race and Festival has arrived, scheduled for June 3-5. “We’re just really excited to be able to put on a beautiful show for people,” said event organizer Catherine Cleiman.

A Cleveland woman was among three people who died in a Sunday crash in Hall County. The two-vehicle wreck happened on Ga. 365 just south of Kubota Way around 12:10 a.m. on May 30, according to information released June 1 by the Hall County Sheriff’s Office.

Pedestrian dies after being hit on Helen Highway

A Gainesville woman died after being struck by a vehicle while crossing Ga. 75 (Helen Highway) near Tom Bell Road on May 29. Rosa Alba Perez, 63, was heading east on the highway, not in a crosswalk, when she was hit by a northbound 2002 Nissan Frontier, according to a report from Cpl. B.D.
