A rabid fox in the Mountain Lakes area is the 12th confirmed rabies case in White County for 2020. According to White County Environmental Health Manager Sean Sullivan, on Monday, July 6, a victim got out of her vehicle and approached a residence.

Emergency crews locate two women missing overnight

Information from the Northeast Georgian    UPDATE: The women were just located at a store in White County and were taken back to the Emergency Services Command Post. Initial reports are they may have become lost and slept in a field overnight but both appear to be OK.     Around 2:45 a.m.

The White County News is the winner of a dozen awards in the Georgia Press Association Better Newspaper Contest. Honors were highlighted by the News being named one of the state’s top weekly newspapers by received second place in the overall General Excellence category for its division.

White County School System has issued an update on their plans for reopening in the fall. With this update, teachers and staff are scheduled to return on Aug. 3, and students are set to return on Aug. 14. This is a week later than originally planned.

There have been 151 total confirmed COVID-19 cases in White County since the start of the pandemic, according to the update on Monday, July 6, on the Georgia Department of Public Health's website. In White County there have been 30 hospitalizations and four deaths attributed to COVID-19.

A rabid raccoon in the area of Frank Black Road is the 11th confirmed rabies case in White County for 2020. According to White County Environmental Health Manager Sean Sullivan, on Monday, June 29, after dusk, a dog owner let the animal out to use the bathroom.
