In-person early voting for the Aug. 11 primary runoff elections is underway. The only local runoff race is on the Republican ballot, between Don Ferguson and Carol Jackson for probate judge. There are no Democratic candidates in the race.

White County High School will hold its second graduation for the Class of 2020 – in a traditional outside setting – this Saturday, July 25. The event begins at 9 a.m. at Warrior Stadium. It follows a drive-in graduation held at the school parking lot in May in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Data from the Georgia Department of Public Health indicates confirmed COVID-19 cases in White County have become more frequent recent weeks. The number of new cases listed by DPH has increased by 20 or more each of the three weeks between June 29 and July 20.

A rabid fox in the Hulsey Road area is the 13th confirmed rabies case in White County for 2020. According to White County Environmental Health Manager Sean Sullivan, on Wednesday, July 15, the victim was walking her dog when a fox appeared.

With a traditional graduation set for Saturday, July 25, White County High School has released the following information for graduates, family members and guests. Graduates need to wear their caps, gown and tassel. They can wear other regalia if they would like, but it’s not required.

There have been 218 total confirmed COVID-19 cases in White County since the start of the pandemic, according to the update on Monday, July 18, on the Georgia Department of Public Health's website. In White County there have been 36 hospitalizations and five deaths attributed to COVID-19.

Pets of the week for the week of July 20 from Charles Smithgall Humane Society. Andy is a gorgeous German shepherd mix. He’s 10 months old and weighs 65 lbs. Andy wasn’t treated well and he still bears some scares. He loves people, but he’s cautious at first.
