There have been 87 total confirmed COVID-19 cases in White County since the start of the pandemic, according to the 8:25 p.m. update on Thursday, May 7, on the Georgia Department of Public Health's website. In White County there have been 19 hospitalizations and two deaths attributed to COVID-19.

White County Board of Education Chair Missy Jarrard is seeking a second term after her election in 2016. She is being challenged by Carly Adam. Both are running as Republicans. With no Democratic candidates in the field, the race will be determined in the June 9 General Primary election.

After returning home from a trip to Helen last October for Oktoberfest, a Virginia family discovered a stowaway. The night before Glenn and Susan Vaughn of Strasburg, Virginia, were set to make the 550-mile trip home, heavy rains doused the lot where their car was parked.
