There have been 659 total confirmed COVID-19 cases in White County since the start of the pandemic, according to the update  on Sunday, Sept. 13, on the Georgia Department of Public Health's website. In White County there have been 90 hospitalizations and 17 deaths attributed to COVID-19.

Time is running out to complete the 2020 Census. Residents yet to complete the questionnaire have through Wednesday, Sept. 30, to respond online, by phone or by mail. Census takers also will stop making follow-up visits to homes at that time.

The Helen Police Department will soon get a new vehicle after city commissioners approved the purchase at a Sept. 8 meeting. “I need it,” said Helen Police Chief Brian Stephens. “It’s going to be the Ford Explorer police package. We go through quite a few vehicles.

White County is approaching 600 total confirmed cases of COVID-19, according to the Georgia Department of Public Health. The DPH’s Sept. 8 date of symptom onset report listed 593 confirmed cases in White County since the first one was reported in mid-March.

White County’s unemployment rate continued to decline in July, according to a report released last week by the Georgia Department of Labor. The county’s 4.4% preliminary unemployment rate is down from 4.8% in June, though it is higher than the 2.9% posted the same time last year.

White County recorded its 500th total confirmed cases of COVID-19 as August ended. According to the Tuesday, Sept. 1, date of symptom onset report from the Georgia Department of Public Health listed 529 confirmed cases since the first one was recorded in mid-March.
