The following meetings are scheduled for this month: White County Board of Commissioners  Work session and regular meeting: 4:30 p.m. on Monday, June 1 at the White County Administration Building at 1235 Helen Highway in Cleveland with social distancing guidelines in place.

Beekeeping and harvesting honey is a hobby for some, a living for others. It has been both for former soldier Dale Fisher, who now finds himself driven to succeed with a family businesses that continues to reach new milestones.

Helen PD puts ‘heat’ on drug crimes

The Helen Police Department’s Operation Winter Heat has taken drugs valued at more than $50,000 off city streets in recent months. “Winter Heat is a concentrated effort to take down the drug suppliers in Helen, Georgia,” according to a statement from Helen Police Chief Brian Stephens.

There have been 94 total confirmed COVID-19 cases in White County since the start of the pandemic, according to the 1 p.m. update on Tuesday, May 26, on the Georgia Department of Public Health's website. In White County there have been 19 hospitalizations and three deaths attributed to COVID-19.

There have been 91 total confirmed COVID-19 cases in White County since the start of the pandemic, according to the 1 p.m. update on Wednesday, May 20, on the Georgia Department of Public Health's website. That number remained the same with the 1 p.m. update on Thursday, May 21.

Helen to allow Shriners Parade, drop July 4 fireworks for this year

The annual Shriners Parade in Helen is set for next month – at least for the moment – while the city won’t hold its annual July fireworks showcase. At its May 14 meeting, the Helen City Commission debated whether to allow several events to be held amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The City of Helen will be conducting a smoke test on the sewer system in the Innsbruck Community for the next few weeks. "If the piping in your home is properly vented, you should not have any smoke penetrate the inside," the city said in a notice on Monday, May 18.
