White County has continued to see an increase in coronavirus cases during the final month of the year. There were 105 confirmed cases from Dec. 1-8, according to the Georgia Department of Public Health on Dec. 8. The county has had 1,426 total confirmed cases as of that report.

Resident leads voter registration drive

Special to the News Sautee Nacoochee resident Anna Robertson Bennett has planned a voter registration drive for Sunday, Dec. 6, the day before the deadline for eligibility to vote in Georgia’s upcoming U.S. Senate runoff elections. The event will be held from 1-4 p.m.

White County saw its second-highest month of confirmed coronavirus cases during the month of November. According to the Georgia Department of Public Health, for the month of November, White County had 285 confirmed cases. Only September has had more, with 363 cases.

In Cleveland, the Christmas in the Mountains celebration and parade will be this Saturday, Dec. 5, from 5-8 p.m., with the parade starting at 7 p.m. There will be vendors on the square as part of the holiday market, and a Christmas tree lighting in Freedom Park at 6:20 p.m. The parade will follow its normal route from Jack P. Nix Elementary School through the Cleveland Square to White County Middle School.

Baker will advise election board for upcoming runoffs

The White County Board of Elections will officially begin its oversight Jan. 1, just in time for the Jan. 5 runoff elections, but it will have some help in the transition.
