Sutton, Turner qualify for mayor’s race

Two candidates for Cleveland mayor had emerged as the special election qualifying period neared its end. Annie Sutton and Josh Turner officially entered the race Monday. No one else had registered  on Wednesday, Jan. 29, with the three-day qualifying period set to end at 4:30 p.m.

Cleveland City Council member Annie Sutton qualified to run for mayor on Monday, Jan. 27. In doing so, Sutton turned in her resignation letter as Ward 2 council member. In a letter, she thanks Cleveland residents for their support during her time on the council.

Qualifying for Cleveland Mayor race begins today

Qualifying for the City of Cleveland mayoral candidates begins today, Monday, Jan. 27, and will be held through Wednesday, Jan. 29, at Cleveland City Hall from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. each day. There is a $138 qualifying fee.

White County School System has a new system-wide spelling bee champion. Fifth-grader Alli Daves took the top honor after she correctly spelled “turret” at the spelling bee on Tuesday, Jan. 14.
