The White County Board of Education didn’t have to look far when it came to finding a new principal for Jack P. Nix Elementary School. School board members approved Laura Hall as the new principal at a called meeting Tuesday, May 4. She is currently the school’s assistant principal.

Cobb leaving county manager position

White County Manager Jason Cobb will be leaving the position by the end of June. Cobb submitted his resignation to the White County Board of Commissioners during a meeting Monday evening, May 3.

The cause of a residential fire on Tray Mountain on Friday, April 30 has not been determined. According to White County Public Safety Director David Murphy, White County Fire Services, the Helen Fire Department and Lee Arrendale Fire Brigade responded to the call at 2:45 p.m.

First responders complete training

irst Responders from White County, along with other agencies, completed a rigorous three-day training course in Tactical Emergency Casualty Care, held April 19-21 at Mountain Education Charter High School.

Kiwanis honors STAR student, teacher

The Kiwanis Club of Cleveland recently honored the 2021 STAR student and teacher at its annual banquet. This year the banquet for STAR student Charles Causey and STAR teacher Kalin Kennedy, was held at White County High School. Guest speaker and Tesnatee Gap Elementary School Principal Dr.

Confirmed cases of COVID-19 in White County rose over the past week. The county’s seven-day moving average of confirmed COVID-19 cases has remained down since hitting a low point a few weeks ago. The Georgia Department of Public Health’s April 27 status report showed the average at 2.

Allen returning to WCMS; Ward retiring from Jack P. Nix

A familiar face will be returning to the halls of White County Middle School. The White County Board of Education has approved hiring Nara Allen as the school’s new principal, effective July 1, 2021. Current principal Kristi Gerrells is retiring in June. “It is very exciting,” Allen said.

Jack. P. Nix Elementary’s Ward to retire

Following an entire career spent at one location, Jack P. Nix Elementary School Principal Stacie Ward will be retiring in June. And after more than two decades spent in education, Ward said now is right time for her to focus on her family and personal matters.
