The White County School System has received federal stimulus funds through the CARES Act, some of which will be used to provide new summer school instruction. Superintendent Dr. Laurie Burkett said the system received $3.1 million from CARES 2 funding.

A planned renovation of the White County Tax Commissioner’s Office recently took another step forward. The White County Board of Commissioners approved an architectural services agreement with BCA Studios Architects during an April 15 called meeting.

White County High School has a new STAR, and a repeating one. Charles Causey has been named White County High School’s STAR student for the Class of 2021. Causey chose Kalin Kennedy as STAR teacher, the consecutive year the educator has received the honor.

One arrested following SWAT team standoff

A Cleveland man has been arrested following a standoff that started on April 20 and continued into April 21.  Cleveland Police Chief Jeff Shoemaker said officers responded to a 911 call on White Street in regards to a physical assault.

The pavilion at the World City Park on Woodman Hall Road has been dedicated to two former Cleveland City Council members, John Palmour and Edward Young. A crowd gathered at the April 12 event to remember the two men honored by the naming of the Palmour-Young Pavilion.

Memorial planned for those lost to COVID-19

A community memorial for White County residents who have lost their lives because of COVID-19 is planned for next Thursday. The White County Board of Education, White County Board of Commissioners and the City of Cleveland will host a community-wide candlelight memorial service at 6:30 p.m.
