Local golf pro recalled for giving back

DeWitt Weaver made his mark as a professional golfer, but it was more than his prowess on the fairway that left an impression on those who knew him.
Weaver, a former golf pro for Innsbruck Golf Club in Helen, died March 18 at 81.

The unemployment rate in White County dipped slightly in January, according to preliminary figures from the Georgia Department of Labor.
The county’s jobless rate of 3.4% is down from the official 3.6% in December. The rate was 2.6% in January 2020.

At its March 16 meeting, the Helen City Commission unanimously approved amending the city ordinance to allow tastings at package stores that sell distilled spirits.
