A familiar face will be returning to the halls of White County Middle School. The White County Board of Education has approved hiring Nara Allen as the school’s new principal, effective July 1, 2021. Current principal Kristi Gerrells is retiring in June. “It is very exciting,” Allen said.

White County is exploring implementing a parking fee and kiosk at the Yonah Preserve Trailhead to offset operational costs. County commissioners outlined the concept for the popular hiking and biking trails, accessed from Albert Reid Road, during their April 26 meeting.

Teachers, staff get surprise ‘thank you’

White County teachers and staff members were treated to a special surprise last Friday by the school system. It was long-known that Gov.
White County 4-H will hold its annual rabies clinic on two Saturdays, April 24 and May 1, from 1-4 p.m. at the Cleveland Veterinary Hospital on U.S. 129 S. across from Wendy’s.

UPDATE: Due to storms predicted for Saturday, April 24, the clinic scheduled for this Saturday has been postponed until further notice. The one on May 1 is still scheduled to take place.  White County 4-H will hold its annual rabies clinic on two Saturdays, April 24 and May 1, from 1-4 p.m.

White County Fire Services appears set to acquire new automated external defibrillators (AED), courtesy of a grant from the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation. The county Board of Commissioners voted to accept the $17,006.88 grant during a April 15 called meeting.

The White County Grand Jury returned 44 true bill indictments last week, which included some defendants facing child molestation charges. During the proceedings from April 12-14, the grand jury indicted 52 people.

White County continues to see positive trends for new infections of the virus that causes COVID-19. The county’s seven-day moving average of confirmed COVID-19 cases has remained down since hitting a low point a few weeks ago.
