Cleveland man charged with stalking, aggravated assault

A Cleveland man has been arrested for allegedly stalking a person he knew. Walter Joey Drew, 37, was arrested on Thursday, Nov. 21, on charges of aggravated assault, two counts of stalking (second or subsequent conviction), and terroristic threats and acts.

It’s almost time for the kickoff to the Christmas season in Alpine Helen with the annual Lighting of the Village. The event will take place on Friday, Nov. 29, at 6 p.m. in the marketplatz in downtown Helen, rain or shine.

New venue offers axe throwing, golf and more

It’s time to let the axes fly – all in good fun, of course. The growing trend of venues hosting axe throwing for sport has reached White County with the arrival of Highway to Hell’n, just north of Cleveland on Helen Highway.

Handy camera helps nurse win Lake Living winter cover contest

Elaine Jones likes to keep her camera handy, because living near Lake Hartwell, she knows a great picture is just around the corner.  That was the case in February when she was returning to her home in Hartwell from Anderson, South Carolina, and the sun was painting the sky with beautiful colors.
A variety of wreaths and trees – 7-foot and 4½-foot varieties – featured in the Festival of Trees fundraiser are up for bidding through Friday, Dec. 6.
