The North Pole isn’t the only place where you’ll find helpers working to spread Christmas joy. White County High School JROTC members are holding their own Santa’s Workshop collection drive to make the holidays brighter for families in need.

A Sautee Nacoochee man suspects he was attacked by a rabid coyote while recently hiking on Yonah Mountain. Charlie Williams says he was on the backside of the mountain, with a view of Duncan Bridge Road, to check out creeks and boulders on Saturday afternoon, Nov. 30, when the incident happened.

The annual Christmas in the Mountains Festival and Lighted Parade event will be held on Saturday, Dec. 7. An old-fashioned Christmas in the Mountains in downtown Cleveland. There will be Christmas carols, hot cocoa and cookies, kids activities, arts & crafts, food booths and more!

For the 14th year, Jack P. Nix Elementary School has been named a Title I Distinguished School with its latest honor for 2019-2020.

The White County Board of Commissioners has begun the search for a successor to County Manager Mike Melton, who will be retiring next year. Melton has held the position since 2012. He says the timing is right, as he’ll be 66 when his last day on the job arrives April 30, 2020.

The U.S. Census Bureau will hold three recruiting sessions on Wednesday, Dec. 11, as part of its current effort to hire staff for the 2020 Census. Starting pay for the temporary Census taker positions is $17 an hour plus 58 cents a mile for mileage reimbursement.
