The North Pole isn’t the only place where you’ll find helpers working to spread Christmas joy. White County High School JROTC members are holding their own Santa’s Workshop collection drive to make the holidays brighter for families in need.

For the 14th year, Jack P. Nix Elementary School has been named a Title I Distinguished School with its latest honor for 2019-2020.

Search on for next county manager

The White County Board of Commissioners has begun the search for a successor to County Manager Mike Melton, who will be retiring next year. Melton has held the position since 2012. He says the timing is right, as he’ll be 66 when his last day on the job arrives April 30, 2020.

The U.S. Census Bureau will hold three recruiting sessions on Wednesday, Dec. 11, as part of its current effort to hire staff for the 2020 Census. Starting pay for the temporary Census taker positions is $17 an hour plus 58 cents a mile for mileage reimbursement.
