The White County Development Authority has taken another step toward issuing up to $25 million in revenue bonds requested by Truett McConnell University. The Authority approved a resolution at its Nov. 12 meeting setting maximums and general terms for the bond issuance.

The Helen City Commission is proceeding with purchasing almost 5.5 acres for $192,000 for future development.

The Helen City Commission is proceeding with purchasing almost 5.5 acres for $192,000 for future development. At a Tuesday, Nov. 12, meeting, commissioners approved entering into a contract to purchase two tracts of land, pending a due diligence period.

The future of a longtime Cleveland establishment is uncertain after a Sunday morning fire destroyed JW Reeds Tavern on Nov. 10. Ed Ward, who owns the business with his wife Regina, told the White County News on Nov. 12 that they haven’t decided what the next steps will be or if they’ll rebuild.

The Cleveland City Council has approved rezoning that clears the way for new housing. The request by Be Squared LLC to change 1.7 acres it owns at 189 Jackson Heights from residential mobile home use to Planned Unit Development (PUD) was presented at the council’s Tuesday, Nov. 12, meeting.

Firefighters responded to a report of smoke at McDonald's in Cleveland earlier this evening. Cleveland Fire Chief Ricky Pruitt said it appears that there was a malfunction with a heat and air unit on the roof.

Fire destroys J.W Reed’s Tavern

J.W. Reed’s Tavern was destroyed in a fire Sunday morning. The fire started before the restaurant opened, so there were no customers present, but co-owner Regina Ward and an employee were inside. They were able to escape with no injuries, said Cleveland Fire Chief Ricky Pruitt.
