Cleveland reviews alcohol ordinance

The City of Cleveland is reviewing proposed amendments to their alcohol ordinance. The amendments come after then-police chief John Foster requested the city council review the ordinance and put a 90-day moratorium on issuing new alcohol licenses while they reviewed the ordinance in December.

Shoemaker named new Cleveland police chief

Cleveland appoints new police chief

In a 3 to 1 vote, the Cleveland City Council approved the appointment of Jeffrey Shoemaker, of White County, as the new Cleveland Police Chief during its meeting on Monday, Jan. 25. Shoemaker is currently employed with the Hall County Sheriff’s Office.

Cleveland elections will return in 2021, with a pair of city council seats up for reelection. Council members at their Jan. 11 meeting approved a resolution setting the election for the Ward 3 and Ward 4 seats for Tuesday, Nov. 2, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Cleveland police say a man was injured after reportedly shooting himself in the leg on accident at Freedom Park on Jan. 6. Officers were dispatched to the park at 3:35 p.m. in reference to a man, identified as Seth Herrin, 44, of Cornelia, who had been shot in the leg, said CPD Lt. Donna Sims.
