No foul play is suspected in a Helen death investigation, according to Helen Police Chief Brian Stephens. The victim, Michael Stewart, 62, of Helen, died of natural causes, said White County Coroner Ricky Barrett. Stewart was found deceased on Saturday, Feb.

Vaccine efforts ramp up

COVID-19 vaccination efforts were in full swing this week with multiple mass patient clinics led by the White County Health Department, MedLink Georgia and state emergency management. The White County Health Department held an appointment-only point of dispensing (POD) operation Feb.

Helen plans to bring back Fourth of July fireworks

Fourth of July fireworks are returning to Helen – at least for the moment. After not being held in 2020 because of the coronavirus pandemic concerns, the Helen City Commission voted Feb. 16 to hold the firework showcase this year.

The 3rd Annual Alpine Helen Songwriters Festival will be an expanded event this year on March 19-20. Jerry Brown, executive director of the Alpine Helen/White County Convention & Visitors Bureau, spoke to commissioners at their Feb. 16 meeting about the event.
