Chattahoochee Strasse in Helen has been closed today, Thursday, July 16, due to a major waterline break. According to a notice sent out by the city, Chattahoochee Strasse is closed from Main Street to Edelweiss Strasse. The street will remain closed until the line is repaired.

Students, teachers will return with changes

The White County School System will resume classes a week later than originally planned, with precautions in place related to the COVID-19 pandemic. Teachers and staff are scheduled to return on Aug. 3, and students are set to come back on Aug. 14.

There have been 174 total confirmed COVID-19 cases in White County since the start of the pandemic, according to the update on Monday, July 13, on the Georgia Department of Public Health's website. In White County there have been 33 hospitalizations and five deaths attributed to COVID-19.

A rabid fox in the Mountain Lakes area is the 12th confirmed rabies case in White County for 2020. According to White County Environmental Health Manager Sean Sullivan, on Monday, July 6, a victim got out of her vehicle and approached a residence.

Emergency crews locate two women missing overnight

Information from the Northeast Georgian    UPDATE: The women were just located at a store in White County and were taken back to the Emergency Services Command Post. Initial reports are they may have become lost and slept in a field overnight but both appear to be OK.     Around 2:45 a.m.
