Tesnatee River Winery and Meadery take home award

Even though the tasting room has only been open for a few weeks, Tesnatee River Winery and Meadery is already bringing home awards. They recently took the silver award in the 2020 Experience Rosé Wine Competition in southern California, said winemaker Lane Williams.

Farmers market kicks off Saturday

The White County Farmers Market will kick off this Saturday, June 27. The market will be held each Saturday in Freedom Park in downtown Cleveland from approximately 7 a.m. to noon, or until sold out, said Charlie Thomas, who is helping organize the market.

The Helen City Commission approved its proposed Fiscal Year 2020-21 budget on Wednesday, June 24. The budget is the same as the approved budget for FY2019-20, in part due to economic uncertainty from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Learning comes to life

School work is really going to come to life next year at Tesnatee Gap Elementary School students. That’s because students were able to earn a 3-D printer at the end of this school year thanks to their hard work. This all came about after TGES Principal Dr.
White County schools will start on Aug. 7, one way or another.

White County schools will start on Aug. 7, one way or another. That’s according to White County School System Superintendent Dr. Laurie Burkett, who spoke to board members about their plans for the fall. “We’ve been working tirelessly trying to figure that out,” Burkett said.

Pets of the week for the week of June 22 from White County Animal Control and Charles Smithgall Humane Society. Joker is a 1 ½ -year-old male lab mix who has been at the shelter since February. Joker is a wonderful guy who absolutely loves to run and play with toys, and loves cuddles as well.
