Ron Webb honored as Citizen of the Year

Ron Webb made a career in law enforcement before retiring, but he’s continued with public service. Webb, a Sautee Nacoochee resident, has been honored with the White County Chamber of Commerce’s 2019 Citizen of the Year Award. The honor was presented at the Tuesday, Sept.

Oktoberfest arrives in Helen

The longest-running Oktoberfest kicks off this week in Helen, highlighted by a parade on Saturday, Sept. 7, at noon in downtown. The 49th annual Oktoberfest begins on Thursday, Sept.

Mayor letter causes friction with council

A letter signed by Cleveland Mayor Shan Ash is causing some dissention with Cleveland City Council members. The letter in question was sent to the Georgia Board of Pardons and Parole on behalf of a White County individual asking for a pardon for a 1996 felony conviction.

BOE purchases land for planned WCHS growth

The White County Board of Education approved the purchase of nearly 15 acres adjacent to White County High School, as part of a plan to add a performing arts center. School Superintendent Dr. Laurie Burkett says the need for a performing arts center has been talked about for a while.
