Double trouble: Handy found a fresh start after second diagnosis

by Samantha Sinclair White County News   Deena Allison Handy had been getting her yearly mammograms since she was in her mid-30s. Her maternal grandfather was one of the few men who get breast cancer, and she knew the family history increased her chances of having breast cancer, too.

House explodes

by Noah Johnson White County News   A loud boom heard on Sunday evening was an explosion and fire that took a family’s home. On Sunday, Oct. 8 around 8:30 p.m., White County Communications received reports of an explosion and residential fire in the area of Gunn Circle.

Car chase leads to shots fired

by Noah Johnson White County News   A police chase resulted in shots fired in White County. On Saturday morning, Oct. 7, shortly after 11 a.m., Habersham E-911 dispatched Emergency Medical Services to a reported vehicle fire 562 Sutton Road in Demorest.

One less thing

by Samantha Sinclair White County News   Amy Mays was building her cleaning business in Sautee Nacoochee when a good friend was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2007. In addition to undergoing cancer treatments, her friend was also taking care of her elderly mother.

‘Not an easy fight’

by Noah Johnson White County News   A recovery home is helping men get and stay sober in Cleveland. Levi’s House is a Christian recovery home for men that offers an in-house, one-year program based on the 12-step program. Cody and Jessica Montgomery opened Levi’s House in Cleveland on May 1.
