No. 14 Lady Bears open with DH split

The No. 14 Truett McConnell softball team opened the season last week by splitting a doubleheader with Middle Georgia State University. The Lady Bears fell 6-3 in the first game of the non-conference doubleheader, but bounced back with a dominating 11-0 run-rule win in the nightcap.

It's time for the White County Lady Warriors to put on some dancing shoes. WCHS opens play in the Class AAAA state basketball tournament  Friday night in Cleveland, taking on Central High School. The game tips off at 6 p.m.

Four Warriors headed to state

White County has four wrestlers in Macon this weekend, chasing a Class AAAA state championship. Sidney Sullens, Devin Sullens, Sean Wurtz and Justin Gilbert make up the Warrior contingent at the state finals, which began this morning in Macon.

Rep. Gurtler to run for Congress

State Rep. Matt Gurtler, whose district includes part of White County, plans to run for Congress. The Republican from Tiger announced Wednesday morning, Feb. 12, he will join the field of candidates seeking the Ninth Congressional District seat that has been held by Doug Collins of Gainesville.

Mayor candidates to speak at forum

Voters will have a chance to hear directly from Cleveland mayoral candidates at a forum planned for Thursday, Feb. 27. Annie Sutton and Josh Turner will take part in the event, presented by the White County Chamber of Commerce’s Governmental Affairs Committee, the White County News and WRWH 93.

A WEEK OF WILD WEATHER

It was a crazy weather week for White County, from flooding to snow to even more rain. It began on Thursday, Feb. 6, when White County, along with most of Georgia, was hit with a downpour. This resulted in multiple road closures throughout the county due to flooding or damage.
