Ridge Road repair to begin soon

Repairs to Ridge Road in Helen are set to begin July 12. The road, which runs from Ga. 75 Alternate to Escowee Drive, was damaged during storms in March. A portion of it was originally closed due to the road washing out on top of a hill near Escowee Drive.

Longtime business nears its final days

Nix Furniture & Hardware is getting closer to closing its doors. Owners Bradley Greene and Charlie Thomas announced in January their plans to retire after four decades at the store. Now they are in the final stages before the closure.

WCHS teams eye 2021 season

After a week off thanks to the GHSA Dead Week, it's back to business for the White County High School fall sports teams. In less than a month, the WCHS softball and volleyball teams will kick off the 2021 season, with the football and cross country teams following in short order.

The White County cannery will be open this summer on Tuesdays and Thursdays from June 29-July 29. On Tuesdays the hours are from 8 a.m. to noon, and on Thursdays the hours are from 2 p.m. – 6 p.m. From Aug. 10-Sept. 9, the cannery will only be open on Thursdays.

White County’s seven-day moving average of confirmed COVID-19 cases is steady. The Georgia Department of Public Health’s June 29 status report showed the average at 0.7 daily cases at that time, up slightly from 0.3 on June 22. Recent figures include 0.4 on June 15, 0.9 on June 8, 1 on June 1, 1.
