A rabid raccoon in the Walking Horse Lane area is the 15th confirmed rabies case in White County for 2020. According to White County Environmental Health, on Tuesday, Sept. 1, a dog owner went outside when he heard some noise on his porch and discovered his dog fighting with a raccoon.

Arrest in mail stolen from five counties

A Clarkesville man has been charged with stealing mail from multiple North Georgia counties, including White County. Kristopher Beasley, 26, was arrested Aug. 23 after someone reported encountering a “suspicious character,” said Helen Police Department Capt. Mark Harris.

After several months of training and road work, the White County cross country teams are finally nearing the starting line for the 2020 season. The WCHS girls and boys' teams got a little work during August, participating in a 2-mile time trial in Acworth.

Longtime Cleveland councilman Ed Young is being remembered for a legacy of service to city residents. Young, who passed away last week at the age of 80, served 47 years on the Cleveland City Council. He was a retired construction superintendent with a career of more than three decades.
