On Wednesday, Aug. 19, White County School System provided a COVID-19 update. In the information released, it said out of the 3,707 students enrolled, two have reported positive COVID-19 test results. There are 15 students quarantined for possible exposure.

JROTC student takes early start to military career

Tori McDuffie, a rising senior at White County High School, recently completed basic training over the summer through the Army National Guard’s Split Training Option. McDuffie is battalion commander for the high school JROTC and part of the WCHS Raider competition squad.

Teen with bone disease gets his wish granted

A White County boy’s wish for a pool came true thanks to Make-A-Wish Georgia. Trevor Thompson, 14, was born with Osteogenesis Imperfecta, also known as brittle bone disease. His nana, Lisa Hall, said he has had over 300 broken bones between fractures and breaks.

White County has had its sixth death attributed to COVID-19. The deceased was a 43-year-old female, and it was not known if she had any chronic health conditions, according to the Georgia Department of Public Health’s Aug. 12 status report.
