High school teams play waiting game as GHSA mulls future plans

by Mark Turner White County News   I n 106 days, the White County Warriors are scheduled to kick off the 2020 high school football season, but due to the coronavirus pandemic, the start of football, and the rest of the fall sports, is still up in the air.

Sautee-Nacoochee's Sinéad O’Bryan has been honored with an Academic Excellence Award in Biological Sciences by the Augusta University College of Science & Mathematics. She is a member of the AU cross-country and track and field team and has been recognized as a two-time NCAA Academic All-American.

Warrior squads had big plans for lost season

This week, White County High School was set to host the Region 7-AAAA track meet. But instead of running, jumping, throwing, and competing, the WCHS athletes, along with all of the other track athletes from around the state, are sitting at home due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Copley added to football staff

The White County Warriors football program added a big piece to its coaching staff last week when Michael Copley was approved by the board of education. According to WCHS head coach Tim Cokely, Copley will take on on the role of defensive coordinator, and strength and conditioning coordinator.

WCHS tabs Bailey for basketball job

The White County Warriors will have a new coach when they take the floor next winter for the start of the high school basketball season. Robbie Bailey, who spent last season with the Warriors as an assistant coach, was approved for the top job last week by the board of education.

Staff report The Appalachian Athletic Conference recently announced the postseason awards for all of the spring sports. The spring season was cut short due to COVID-19, and AAC officials decided to honor the spring athletes with the Champions of Character team and All-Academic squad.
