Cason hired as county manager

The White County Board of Commissioners hired Joey Cason as county manager during a called meeting Tuesday. Cason, currently executive director of the Camden County Public Service Authority, is set to begin his new post Sept. 20. He was the sole finalist announced by commissioners Aug. 10.

The high school cross country season just started last week, and the Region 7-AAA cross country meet is still more than two months away, but for the White County High School runners there is no time like the present to prepare for the future.

The White County High School runners kicked off the 2021 cross country season last week with a stage race in Commerce. WCHS took part in the North Georgia Two Mile State Races at East Jackson High School, along with more than a dozen schools from the area.

A two-vehicle wreck on Tuesday, Aug. 17, left one person seriously injured and seven with minor injuries. According to the Georgia State Patrol, Kasey Leeann Christopher, 39, of Cleveland, was driving a 1990 Lexus LS400 south on State Route 17 in Helen near Comer Circle.
