Helen PD puts ‘heat’ on drug crimes

The Helen Police Department’s Operation Winter Heat has taken drugs valued at more than $50,000 off city streets in recent months. “Winter Heat is a concentrated effort to take down the drug suppliers in Helen, Georgia,” according to a statement from Helen Police Chief Brian Stephens.

There have been 94 total confirmed COVID-19 cases in White County since the start of the pandemic, according to the 1 p.m. update on Tuesday, May 26, on the Georgia Department of Public Health's website. In White County there have been 19 hospitalizations and three deaths attributed to COVID-19.

Two arrested for Cleveland armed robbery

Two people have been arrested following an armed robbery at a gas station in Cleveland on Saturday, May 23. According to Lt. Donna Sims with the Cleveland Police Department, at approximately 6:18 p.m.

The annual Shriners Parade in Helen is set for next month – at least for the moment – while the city won’t hold its annual July fireworks showcase. At its May 14 meeting, the Helen City Commission debated whether to allow several events to be held amid the coronavirus pandemic.
