GBI makes arrest in attempted murder-for-hire

The GBI arrested a Cleveland man for criminal solicitation in an attempted murder-for-hire case.  Freddie Warthen, 31 of Cleveland, was arrested Jan. 6, and also charged with home invasion and aggravated assault in a separate incident in White County.

Bearing a cold splash: Crowd braves winter water for annual Unicoi plunge

by Samantha Sinclair White County News   The water wasn’t too bad Saturday morning. That’s what Collin Thibeau and Bryson Howe thought as they took a dip prior to the official Winter Bear Plunge to test out the water.

Board changes voting location

by Samantha Sinclair White County News   Voters in the Blue Creek precinct will have a new polling place, and voters in the Town Creek precinct can look forward to a possible change in their polling place, too.

Winter Bear Plunge takes place at Unicoi Saturday

Friends of Unicoi State Park will host the annual Winter Bear Plunge Saturday. The event will begin with registration at 10 a.m., with participants jumping into the water at 11:30 a.m. About 50-75 people typically participate in the plunge each year.

Pantry needs more volunteers

by Samantha Sinclair White County News   The White County Food Pantry planned to be open five days starting this week, but the plan was put on hold due to a lack of volunteers. The pantry is regularly open 10 a.m. to noon Monday-Thursday. The goal is to be open on Fridays, too.
