Pedestrian hit by vehicle late Tuesday night in Cleveland

A Cleveland man is in the hospital after being hit on Bryant Street by a vehicle late Tuesday evening, July 30. Kenneth Anderson, 32, was walking on the street, just inside of the outer white line marking, according to Lt. Donna Sims with the Cleveland Police Department.

Two bodies found at campground after welfare check

Two bodies were found at Mt. Yonah Campground on Monday, July 29, around 3:45 p.m. Authorities received a call to conduct the welfare check on an “older couple” that lived in a camper, because they had not been seen for several days, according to White County Sheriff’s Office Capt. Rick Kelley.

Craig earns a spot in Team Georgia lineup

White County High School golfer Catie Craig is making some noise this summer on the Georgia State Golf Association junior tour. In June, Craig was one of six players to earn a spot on Team Georgia for the 2019 Georgia-South Carolina Girls' Junior Challenge in August.

Be it avian, aircraft – or something else – Georgia organization tracks reports of UFOs

It’s a bird! It’s a plane! No, it’s a UFO? When some people hear UFO, they think of aliens, but the term simply refers to an unidentified flying object. And what these objects could be was the topic a recent program at the Cleveland branch of the White County Public Library on Saturday, July 20.

Millage hearings begin for county, Cleveland and BOE

No one from the public attended the City of Cleveland’s first two meetings on its proposed millage – but there was discussion about changing the rate. Cleveland has advertised a millage rate of 6, which is about 1.7 percent over the rollback rate of 5.899.

County split over firefighter grant

The White County Board of Commissioners, in a split vote, has approved seeking a federal grant to help bolster its roster of full-time firefighters. County Public Safety Director David Murphy presented the request at the commissioners’ July 18 called meeting.
