The Helen City Commission could require residences and businesses to display 911 address numbers as a way to aid emergency responders.
Commissioners discussed the issue at their Tuesday Nov. 12, meeting as City Manager Jerry Elkins noted many places in the city do not have a visible 911 address.

Drug bust nets $120,000 in drugs

A traffic stop in White County in September netted $120,000 worth of drugs.
According to Trent Hillsman with the Appalachian Regional Drug Enforcement Office, at approximately 2 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 13, White County deputies conducted a traffic stop on U.S. 129 in the area of Poppy Drive.

Firefighters respond to two fire calls

Firefighters responded to two recent fire incidents, one on Wednesday night and one in the early morning hours on Thursday.
According to Ana Newberry with White County Fire Services, firefighters responded to a report of a chimney fire at a residence Ga. 254 near Westmoreland Road, around 8 a.m.
