White County Fire Services had a busy Tuesday night when they responded to a calls about a rescue and a fire. According to White County Public Safety Director David Murphy, White County Fire Services responded to a call at approximately 8:30 p.m. from some kayakers asking for help from the river.

Three young men recognized for life saving efforts

White County Fire Services recognized three young men on Friday, Aug. 28, for the life-saving roles they played in helping an injured man. According to White County Public Safety Director David Murphy, a man was injured while cutting a tree on May 30, 2020 in northern White County.
There have been 511 total confirmed COVID-19 cases in White County since the start of the pandemic, according to the update  on Sunday, Aug. 30, on the Georgia Department of Public Health's website.

A Cleveland man has been charged with murder following a shooting on Friday, Aug. 28. Gary Stephens, 27, has been charged with aggravated assault and felony murder.

Longtime councilman Young dies

Longtime Cleveland City Councilman Edward Young died Tuesday, Aug. 25, at the age of 80. Young retired from the City Council in December 2017 as the Ward 3 representative after 47 years in office. Graveside services are scheduled for 3 p.m. Friday, Aug. 28, at Gateway Memory Park.
