Walden, Sutton honored for longtime service to community

Telling the story of Alpine Helen

The newest addition to the Helen Arts & Heritage Center is a theater room that offers visitors the opportunity to learn more about the history of Helen.
The Helen Christmas parade is set for Saturday, Dec. 12, at 2 p.m. The parade will begin near the Helen Festhalle on Edelweiss Strasse, then turn left onto Chattahoochee Strasse, making a right onto Main Street and ending near Betty’s Country Store.

The Helen City Commission approved an across-the-board 5.3% pay raise for all employees during a meeting on Tuesday, Dec. 8. Mayor Steve Fowler said the current cost of living increase is 1.3%. City Manager Jerry Elkins said the other 4% was an annual increase. This brought the total to 5.3%.

Walden honored for 41-year career as retirement nears

Longtime White County Sheriff Neal Walden was showered with words of praise and gifts at a Dec. 3 celebration of his upcoming retirement, held at First Baptist Church in Cleveland. Several speakers lined up to honor Walden for his 41-year career in law enforcement, including 29 years as sheriff.
